The North Central Girls Swimming & Diving Team had a record-breaking weekend, storming their way to the IHSAA Girls Sectional championship. The Panthers outdistanced runner-up Franklin Central 513-414, setting two Sectional records and one school record in the process. Eight girls qualified for this weekend’s IHSAA State Finals due to their performances at Sectionals.
The Panthers started and finished the meet in style on Saturday, with the quartet of senior Ashley Glesing, juniors Grace Lough and Meggie McPherson and sophomore Alani Hightower winning the 200 Medley Relay in school and Sectional record time, and the team of McPherson, senior Delaney Isakson, junior Sally Jones and sophomore Emma Horton winning the 400 Freestyle Relay in Sectional record time.
Glesing (100 Breaststroke), Hightower (200 IM), Horton (200 Freestyle), Isakson (500 Freestyle) and Lough (100 Freestyle) all punched individual tickets to the State finals by winning Sectional titles in their respective events. And the quartet of Glesing, Hightower, Lough and junior Claudia Buddenbaum made it a clean sweep of the relay events, winning Sectionals and qualifying for State in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Isakson (200 Freestyle) and McPherson (100 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke) also qualified for State in their respective events as non-winners.
